If you haven’t been by Funk Town Farm lately.. you should swing by and take a look! We have new native meadow grass planted as well as lots of flowers and fast growing summer veggies. There have been a lot if mid-week field trips to the farm, where kids learn where their eggs come from, how good it feels to make a salad freshly picked from the garden and how beneficial insects help the garden! Thank you to all that have been involved lately, from the chicken sponsors, compost team to the garden leaders! We are looking forward to a great summer at Funk Town Farm and we are very excited about the new people, plants and ideas springing up!!

Jess will open the garden at 10 am and Daphne will close at 2 pm.
We hope you can join us!
This spring the garden is growing into a teaching garden! Several kindergarten and elementary schools will be visiting in the next few months. Daphne is planning a schedule for kids to harvest as well as plant.
We’re also having a local group volunteer to install a small patch of native grasses near the garden entrance. This space will serve as a little classroom for kids. It will also be a nice place for a picnic…all are welcome to enjoy this space!
Lastly, we plan to designate one of our raised beds this year for seed-saving, both for own farm as well as for the Seedfolks Community Seed Libraries, which is currently located at the Cesar Chavez branch of the Oakland Public Libraries. Go check it out: http://www.theseedfolks.org/

Happy Holidays, Farmers!
‘Tis the season to be with families and enjoy a little down-time, so Funk Town Farm will be on “holiday” until New Year, since all of our regular workday shift leaders are away.
While the garden is in its season of rest, we might as well be, too!
Wishing you a safe, peaceful holiday season!

and, if you rely on funk town composting for your green waste, can’t make it this weekend or simply have a really good time preparing the space and want to keep on keeping on with this project…
please consider coming to help out on saturday, november 19th! we will be building new compost bins outside the coop. this will give you safer, easier access to the compost, allow for easier compost maintenance and turning, and spare our chickens the caffeine high they’ve been getting from the coffee grounds.

tomorrow will be lovely morning of gardening!
join us for some general farm maintenance, a bit of fall planting, and letting the chickens run free…inside their special chicken fences, that is.
there will also be a number of chicken sponsors at the garden constructing a new roof and door for the coop. if you are into that, you can most certainly help!
